Lisandra Marrero from Vega Alta, Puerto Rico; July 2010: 'this room was occupied by me and my other sister, even the room being small, this did not bother at all since it was clean and so was the bathroom. the only thing that bothered was the Karaoke Nights down in Gretchens bar that made it impossible to fall asleep. But for the price all the other things were ok, The only thing u need is to equip the rooms with TV and cable, for the rainy days!!!!!!!!!!!!'
Lisandra Marrero from Vega Alta, Puerto Rico; July 2010: 'this room was occupied by my sister her husband and their two toddlers, she commented that the room was comfortable, the bathroom was clean, the only thing was the Karaoke Nights down in Gretchens bar that made it impossible to sleep.'
Shelly Wilson from Houson, USA; July 2010: 'My comments are going to sound negative, but I would stay here again because it is cheap and the beaches/snorkeling in Culebra are worth it. This is just more so that someone can be prepared for the reality of Hotel Kokomo Room 4. The paint and such is clearly worn, the air conditioner was barely adequate (but it did work), the bed is hard, it smells musty, the bathroom is down the hall, around the corner, and down another hall, and the stairs are extremely steep. The was water rationing when I was there; so water was only on ~2 hours/day (no flushing toilets, washing hands, showers, etc). It was super easy to grab a taxi to Flamenco beach ($3) and walk over to Carlos Rosario for snorkeling with almost no one around. The ferry is directly across the road (easier for a 6:30am departure). Watch out for sea urchins at the other snorkel place (starts with an M).'
Annukka Junnila from Helsinki, Finland; July 2010: 'Clean, simple and affordable accomodation. Great location. Definitely a good deal!'
Joe Villari from Elgin, USA; July 2010: 'I had a wonderful visit to Culebra. Hotel Kokomo offered me a safe and centrally located place to stay at an affordable price.'
Joerg Freckmann from Berlin, Alemania; July 2010: 'My stay at this hotel was not at all nice. Downstairs in the office a very unfriendly woman. The room more than only basic. At night noise because of the bar downstairs. Nobody cleans the room. The only good thing: the AC was working (very loud). My tip:dont stay.Spend a bit more in another guesthouse!'
melissa villalba from boston,ma, usa; June 2010: 'The hotel was in best area and we were lucky to have been right in front of the ferry. We also liked the fact that the scuba rental office was right next door for extra convenience. We walked to Playa Melones from the hotel and it wasn't very far at all, maybe a 20-30 minute walk:) it was a great place to snorkel and to be all alone on the beach! It was also nice to be in walking distance (less than 10 mins)to the colmado and some good restaurants. The rooms were tight and just basic to fit most travelers needs. It was clean but there was some kind of white crusty stuff on our sink faucet and a very pungent smell that came from the bathroom. (maybe a cleaning solvent?)It was kind of too strong for us and permeated the room. Our only issues were that the air conditioning didn't work at all. It just blew out hot air and the ceiling fan did little to cool the room down. Also, we didn't know that the only restaurant/club/bar in town that stayed open til 12am +/- was right under our room. The noise was bothersome and we couldn't get any sleep until it closed. Plus, in the pictures it looked like a box spring mattress came with the bed. We didn't have one and we woke up with sore backs. '
Peter Thompson from DeKalb, IL, USA; May 2010: 'Hotel Kokomo was inexpensive and conveniently located. It was not particularly well furnished or well staffed but it is, I believe, the least expensive place on the island and I managed to sleep here and meet lots of good people in and around the bar downstairs. Would stay here again.'
angelica perez from astoria, new york; May 2010: 'Upon arrival to Culebra, we walked right into vacation planners to ask if they have lockers where we could store our suitcases since it was only 10am. They were very nice and helpful from the minute we stepped in. We stored our suitcases and headed to Flamenco Beach. We came back round 330pm the rooms are very small but clean its like being at someones house in PR. I dont mind a small hotel room when i know im not gonna be in the room. we had a shower and we brought our own shampoo and soap and towels. The next day we asked downstairs where to rent bikes, they offered to call for us but our cel worked so we called ourselves. If your low key and just want a bed to sleep at nite this is the place...if your high maintenance and picky do not stay here. i will def go back bcuz you cant beat the price and location.'
a z from NYC, US; May 2010: 'I have been going to Culebra for about 15 years. Little has changed on the island during that time, gracias a Dios. There is still almost no crime and the beaches as pristine as ever. If you want amenities go elsewhere - Culebra is not about amenities- it's about the humbling splendor of the Caribbean - barely changed since Columbus first saw it.
If you read a review of Hotel Kokomo that is disparaging, the author is likely a spoiled, pretentious person. Hotel Kokomo is a clean, comfortable and friendly place to have as your base in Culebra. I always bring pajamas, since you only get 1 sheet to keep warm at night against the AC, otherwise I adore this place
The patio and lounge are the best spot to see the sun set and party into the night. Kokomo is where the cool, friendly, interesting people go after a long lazy day (unlike Mammacita's, where you can count on being ignored, abused and ripped off).
Go to "El Batey" for delicious food at great prices. If you must rent a car use Carlos, not Jerry. Trust me on this one. Get a bike instead!! - from Dick and Kathy. They are the BEST!
Go to Culebra and you will become an addict, like me.

MADELINE OTERO from HUMACAO, PUERTO RICO; May 2010: 'FIRST OF ALL WE RESERVE FOR THE GROUPER AND SNAPPER ROOMS, BUT WE SWITCH TO THE MARLINS APARTMENT, THE ROOM IS GREAT BECAUSE WE HAD ALL THE UTILITIES THAT A HOUSE HAS. ALSO WE ENJOY A LOT THE BALCONY. I LOVE IT AND I RECOMMEND IT.'
Cilia Maria Ruiz-Paz from Alexandria, VA, USA; May 2010: 'The hotel was clean and very accessible, although a little bit noisy. The price for the studio was the cheapest and reasonable for what was received, but the bathroom being outside the room warranted it. We didn't see any insects and the temperature was adequate. A mirror in the room would have been nice.'
Beth Soto from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico; April 2010: 'THE PICTURES DO NOT DO IT JUSTICE!
Me and my party stayed at Penthouse 11. We did not like that the gate was easily accessible (anyone can get in). The stairs were really steep, so I recommend you don't bring little ones. The beds weren't very comfy. The bedroom's closet is difficult to open and the air doesn't cool as well as it should.
The place was ready for us, fully equipped, and with a great window/balcony view. We were definitely impressed with how spacious it was and just how prepared the place was for us. There's the microwave, coffee maker, pots, utensils, and towels. Very fast and easy to find and check in and out. The people working at Vacation Planners were kind and allowed us to leave our stuff for the rest of the day after checkout.
All-in-all, it was a nice stay. '
Oscar Quinones from Aguadilla, PR; March 2010: 'Loved the stay at Kokomo. It was very spacious, neat and clean. Perfect location across the ferry terminal in downtown area. Walking distance to the colmados, bars, and food places. The perfect place for a group of people to stay in, not so much for a honeymoon. :) '
Jack Gilbert from Pittsburgh, Pa, USA; March 2010: 'I had a great stay at Hotel Kokomo. I was in the Sailfish Penthouse and had plenty of space and great views of the harbor. Thanks Mike, see you next year!'
Alex Cadavid from Atlantic City, NJ, USA; March 2010: 'For the price you can't beat it. Great location! Take your own sheets and towels for an extended stay. Would be really nice if the hotel provided at least a radio. Overall, if your just looking for a place to sleep and shower this is the perfect place at the right price! '
Mark Lybarger from Columbus, US; February 2010: 'I stayed 5 nights at the hotel kokomo. The room was all it was presented as. I got the cheep 44/night room with a bathroom around the corner. There was ac in the room and it was close to everything around. The staff was really great. The room was clean and had a bed for me to sleep in which was all i really wanted on the paradise island of Culebra. I could have used a few other things, and there was space in the room for a coffee maker, microwave, fridge, small/simple cooking maybe.
there might have been reviews about noises, etc? i had not troubles sleeping, it was the roosters every morning at 4:30 that would wake me up. they're unavoidable as they live on the island like squirrels; they're everywhere.
I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone except the princess and the pea. it's not a luxry resort, it's a cheap place to stay in paradise.
If you go, and want to take a day trip to Culebrita, I'd highly recommend contacting Nelson who works at the Ferry about a trip. He and Norman were great guides for a water taxi. We paid about 40/person, which included round trip. Dropped off in the morning and picked up at an established time.
'
Michael Hodgins from Westbrook, CT, USA; February 2010: 'This was the 3rd year that I stayed at Kokomo. The hotel suits me perfectly, especially room #4. This is the best deal that I know of on Culebra and I will be back again as soon as possible.
Mike H.
'
Dennis Flynn from Indianapolis; Indiana, USA; February 2010: ' Location was wonderful for the two of us. The pier for the water taxi was right out front, all land running shuttles begin and end here also. VERY QUIET and restful, and a fabulous pizza parlor plus a row of resturaunts about a 1/2 block away.Roseario Beach is better/ more than what a person would imagine. Well worth the hike.
Only comment for improvement is for Hotel Kokomo to add Televisions to the room.
Excellent shop near the bridge for the canal (name unknown yet the gentlemans name who owned the place was named Jorge') a local aspiring artist. Well worth a visit. '
Herman T from Los Angeles, CA, USA; February 2010: 'I would first of all like to thank Hotel Kokomo for your incredible hospitality and comfort during our stay last December. While we had many choices to stay at I really enjoyed the comfort of a friendly staff, easy transportation access, and all that Isla Culebra has to offer. My wife and I will never forget the unbelievable time we shared like when we drank fresh Coco juice together on Zoni Beach or after walking for over 30 minutes only to end up on a small secluded amazing beach north of Carlos Rosario Beach, we fell in love again there! We enjoyed ourselves so much we would like to return and next summer with some friends to "Experience Culebra" all over again!'
Ben Yee from New York, USA; January 2010: 'Kokomo is perfectly convenient, welcoming, clean, and affordable.'
alan zychek from los angeles, us; January 2010: 'So you want to go to paradise but aren't super-wealthy? Don't want to sleep in the rain with the mosquitos? Here's the answer.. Kokomo Room #4. A pleasant walk down the hall leads to your bathroom which is pristine! Tons of hot water pressure sure feels good after a day at the beach and then you're in the center of what little action(night life?) this amazing island has. Oh, and it's about 40 bucks a night. I've stayed in 5 and 7. Nice rooms but come on - new mattress time. Thanks Mara for taking care of me and Hector for the hat that saved my skin and turning me on to Ron de Barrilito. Very hospitable. Be sure to hit up Dick and Kathy for your bike - incredible vaca thanks guys.'
Orlando Francisquelo from Buenos Aires, Argentina; January 2010: 'A very nice experience, the people at the hotel is ready to serve you and show a very professional and customer focused mindset.
If you want to experience a couple of days in a non crowdly island, this is the place to go.
Opportunity to make some improvement: I should add a TV set or radio into the rooms
Orlando & Stella'
Lauren Smith from boston, ma; January 2010: 'enjoyed our stay! a few suggestions:
-extra bath towel to use as a bath mat to keep water from leaking all over bathroom floor.
-a floor mat outside of door to wipe sand from our feet so it doesnt track in the room.
-another corner shelf in the opposite corner near the window.
-another sheet or blanket on colder nights..we were freezing sometimes!
all in all, a very good stay. people were very friendly and we enjoyed our time in culebra.'
Juan Delacruz from gainesville, FL, USA; January 2010: 'Reasonably priced lodging with a beautiful view. Hotel has everything, including hot water. Great little bar downstairs! Overall, I plan to stay there again in the future'
Eldon Peters from Chapel Hill, United States; January 2010: 'The rooms are simple, but the staff was incredible. They knew everyone on the island and greeted you like an old friend. The attention to small details and the thoughtfulness of the staff surpasses any hotel staff at any level. Thank you for a wonderful time!'
from Tucson, AZ, USA; January 2010: 'The location is really good and the staff was awesome. The room had screens on its windows (no mosquitoes allowed), they provided two towels and the AC was so cold we had to set it to low (which is a plus when it's so hot outside). However, one must be honest and point out a few things that need improvement. First, the bed was hard as rock and the platform looked home made. There was no soap in the room. For $75/night one would expect at least a 50 cent bar of soap (specially when one needs to put in a $50 deposit on top of the rent). Also, the shower was bent inwards onto the wall such that one had to lean against the wall to get wet. That was quite annoying on top of having to clean off the sea water with water only and no soap. '
Christian from Boston, ; December 2009: 'My girlfriend and I stayed at the Kokomo a few nights. Sure, this is probably not the Ritz (I wouldn’t know) but it’s a decent place to crash and the island of Culebra is such a beautiful place and the people there (locals and most of the tourists) are so friendly that you don’t care. There is a bed. You can have a shower and the staff is friendly. If you want a spa, a tennis court and a wellness center – go somewhere else!'
Boris from NYC, ; December 2009: 'I stayed at room 4 one night, it wasn't the greatest considering it only had a bed and a bathroom but me and my girlfriend just needed a place to crash. If you plan to stay make sure you take the basics like shampoo and soap...they do provide towels. Would styay there again!'
Mindy Han from Singapore, Singapore; June 2009: 'Before we came, we had seen some mixed reviews for Hotel Kokomo. However, it was such a great bargain (in terms of price and location) that we decided to give the place a chance anyway. I'm really glad we did - Hotel Kokomo exceeded all our expectations, it was clean, comfortable and centrally-located, not to mention very reasonably priced. It's not a private villa or anything, of course, but I would definitely stay there again. Being a ship freak, it was a bonus to be able to watch the ferry boats load and unload just minutes from the front door.'
Liz pacilio from Dublin, NH, USA; June 2009: 'As always, we had a wonderful time in Culebra! Just an FYI: we did see a few large roach like critters in our penthouse apartment, which was not the case when we stayed in January. However, we would definitely stay at Hotel Kokomo again, and look forward to it! Thank you.'
Khatera Ahmad from NY, US; May 2009: 'Hi,
I got an email from Kokomo and also from Pay Pal saying that I have been refunded my $50, but I have not yet seen the refund in my statement.
How soon will this refund show up in my statement?
Regards,
Khatera'
